About DDWTF
Dear Diary, WTF? is a digital essay series and community project that translates psychology and psychoanalytic ideas into everyday language; the kind you’d actually use in a group chat. It was built for the people who grew up hearing “stop over-analysing” and realised, years later, that analysis was the only thing keeping them sane.
Each essay turns a piece of lived experience (breakups, boundary dramas, dream weirdness) into a mini case study in human behaviour. The tone is deliberately unacademic: witty, conversational, sometimes inappropriate. But under the humour sits the same scaffolding used in clinical theory: attachment dynamics, defence mechanisms, trauma responses, and the quiet art of emotional regulation.
The project’s goal is simple: make emotional literacy mainstream. By blending psychoanalytic thought, neuroscience, and cultural commentary, DDWTF acts as a bridge between therapy rooms and real life. It is an open-access classroom for people who’ll never read Bowlby, Winnicott, or Freud but live their theories daily.
Behind the scenes, the platform also serves as an ongoing reflexive research experiment in public psycho-education: exploring how humour, storytelling, and digital intimacy can help translate complex psychology without watering it down.
For educators, researchers, or journalists: essays may be cited for educational or media purposes with attribution. Collaboration and guest-lecture enquiries are welcome.
